Isn't it ironic...

...that after nearly 20 yrs of running my business, I return to the rawness and appeal of making my soap in various shaped boxes & crates and handcutting the bars and wrapping them simply with one little band of recycled paper. I came to the realization that all these years, I have been trying to make my bars uniform and perfect and now that I have purchased a biodegradable shrink wrap film, my packaging is the best and most eco-friendly- but they look too perfect! What's beautiful now is that each bar is its own shape, with curves, angles and wrinkles- kind of like people! I love that. And, so now that my recipes are much more evolved and refined, I am able to effortlessly stir, pour and handcut and enjoy the not-so-perfect finished shapes of them.

I become obsessed sometimes with order and perfection yet my most favorite things are those that are tarnished, crooked, worn and imperfect. Today, I picked fresh "chocolate peppermint" from my garden, rinsed it and am now steeping it to make a concentrated "tea" for my lavender peppermint tea tree shampoo bar that will be at the Memphis Farmers Market this saturday. Today is my little one's 6th birthday so after our little party in the park, I may try to squeeze in a batch of unscented carrot, milk and honey also....
